the practice of Physical Therapy. She graduated
from Florida International University with a BA in
Physical Therapy in 1977.
After graduating, she worked in Lake Worth,
Florida, at Doctor's Hospital. Then she spent a
year and a half living in France and working in
Geneva, Switzerland at a 100 bed hospital
(Hopital Cantonal) and rehabilitation clinic (Beau
Sejour). Upon returning to the United States, she
began working independently as a contract
Physical Therapist performing Home Health
visits, out-patient clinic coverage and head
trauma treatments
In 1992, Nancy opened the Physical Therapy
Clinic, a 1600sq ft. out-patient clinic in West
Palm Beach, Florida. She has been featured in
the Sun Sentinel for her work with head injured
patients as well as on SuccessTelevision.com
as a health expert.
Currently, she sees orthopedic, geriatric, joint
replacement, neck and back pain patients and
has a particular interest in the role posture plays
in the aging population in contributing to neck
and shoulder pain.
Physical Therapy is as old as pain itself.
Early Chinese and Roman cultures used
physical means, such as therapeutic massage,
water and heat to restore movement, relieve
pain, and as preventative health care.
Today’s physical therapists are specialists
trained to improve and expand movement and
function, relieve pain and promote optimal
human health through a variety of means.
Physical Therapists complete four to six year
college degree programs emphasizing the
biological and medical sciences and are fully
licensed.
How We Help You Heal
Working closely with your physician, our
therapists are a key member of your health care
team. Through evaluation and individualized
treatment programs, they can both treat existing
problems and provide preventive health care for
people with a variety of needs.
The Physical Therapy evaluation includes your
history, observation of your posture and
movement. Testing for muscle strength, range
of motion and other tests may be used. A plan
of care or treatment program geared to meet
your individual needs is then formed.
Treatment may include mobilizing stiff joints
and tissue, exercise, stretching, heat or ice and
patient education.
Setting Goals
The goals of physical therapy are to restore or
achieve optimal movement and function and
relieve pain. Your personal goals for therapy
are also important. One patient’s goal may be
self-care and independence after a stroke while
another patient may seek to overcome back
pain, learn to walk with an artificial joint
replacement, or return safely to athletics after
injury.
Physical therapists are licensed professionals
qualified to treat a variety of conditions such as
arthritis, auto and sports related injuries,
fractures and joint replacements, back pain,
muscle sprains/strains and repetitive use
injuries as well as postural problems that may
cause neck and arm pain. Methods such as
traction, exercise, paraffin, ultrasound, electrical
stimulation, free weights and closed chain
exercises may be used in your treatment.
